Western Series

FF at Seaton Cricket Club in 1924

The Western Series has been a long-established and much enjoyed FF tour. Originating in 1924 under L.C.H Palairet, it continued in the sixties and seventies through the great hospitality of the Parr family of Colyton and, in more recent times still, under the devoted management of two late Forester greats, John Bretten and James Fitzgerald. The tradition has been most ably sustained by Nick Baldwin, who celebrated his 25th tour as Manager in 2025.

The FF currently enjoy matches against Budleigh Salterton, Devon Dumplings, Somerset Stragglers, Sidmouth and the showpiece versus MCC, with matches being hosted at Budleigh, Sidmouth, and Seaton, which alongside the stunning fishing village of Beer, becomes our ‘home’ for the week.

Historically, long-standing opponents include Dorset Rangers as well as Seaton, Old Honitonians and Axminster. FF have also played Devon Lions (Academy), Dorset Academy and Somerset 2nd XI/ Academy sides through the years.

Today’s tour sees a family orientated week with excellent socials throughout, including the BBQ after the match with MCC expertly cooked by Charlie McKegney, curry night at Budleigh, Paella on the Beach in Beer and a sumptuous players and families dinner at Beer Head Bistro, organised by the effervescent Ted Sandbach.
