New Hon Sec

26 March 2015

After 6 years in the post of Hon Sec, Guy Beresford has handed over to Paul Askew. The club is very grateful for all the time and effort that Guy has expended on our behalf; he has played a pivotal role in updating the club's database and he will remain as an important member of the general committee.

Paul was elected to the club in 1978, having represented Durham University and Wiltshire. In the intervening 36 years Paul has made a significant contribution as a player, making over 300 appearances for the club; and as a match manager, starting in the match against the Infantry in 1983. Since then he has run FF sides against the Ireland national side, Dulwich College, Eton College, Tonbridge School, Eden Valley/Kirkby Stephen, and the Refugee Cricket Project amongst others, as well as running a biennial FF tour to Ireland since 1992, which has led to a very close relationship between the club and the Irish cricket establishment. He has also toured Holland and Australia with the club, as well as being an integral member in all four of FF's teams at the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival between 2000 and 2005, winning the Bowler of the Tournament award twice. In 2008 he became the originator and first manager of the FF Academy.

For the last 10 years he has been Chairman of Spencer CC in the Surrey Premiership, where he was responsible for managing cricketers of renown such as Michael Carberry, Alex Tudor and Jonathan Batty, as well as some of our own. The club is fortunate that those managerial skills will now be directed towards his original club, and note that he is already coordinating the celebrations of the 160th anniversary of the club's founding, in 2016.
